Jackpot Darts is based, unsurprisingly, on the ever-popular game of darts. The difference between this and your garden-variety pub game of darts is that you can place bets based on where you think darts will land. Its not you throwing the darts, but a computer-generated player of no specific ability.

The game screen features a dartboard. On the left-hand side of said dartboard you will find the chalkboard which, one way or another, accompanies every dartboard known to man. This chalkboard contains four sections - one enumerating all your throws, one totalling the score accumulated by the three darts thrown, one showing your stake, and finally the section showing what you win on the three throws carried out by the computer. Not exactly the same as the usual chalkboard then, but fairly self-explanatory once you get a look at it.

On the right-hand side of the board is a series of options: Jackpot, Singles, Doubles, Trebles, Outer Bull, Inner Bull, Lo/Mid/Hi and 1-20 Singles. The Jackpot can only be selected if you are playing for money, but all other options are available to the casual player. Singles, Doubles and "Trebles", as the names suggest, allow you to bet on the darts landing in the Single, Double and Treble fields on the board. You can choose to bet on how many will land in a one or more of the specified fields.

The Bull fields correspond to the dartboard's Bullseye (in the center of the board) - a less likely eventuality, with correspondingly longer odds. Lo/Mid/Hi offers you the chance to predict the total score from three darts - less than thirty-eight is Lo, Mid is between 39 and 41 (and therefore has extremely long odds), and anything higher than 41 is Hi. Finally, 1-20 Singles allows you to choose five of the twenty enumerated segments from 1-20 and, if a dart falls within any of these you win 9x your stake.

This game would be a good deal more fun if you could throw the darts yourself, but that would remove some measure of the element of chance. The computer-controlled thrower has no specific bias - its darts can land anywhere, so trying to predict where they'll go is a lottery. Your best bet is simply to play the percentages - which is what gambling is all about, after all. The only object of the darts aspect of the game is as a way of selecting random numbers, but it's a quite enjoyable way of doing that. As long as you don't think a working knowledge of the game of darts will be an advantage towards winning money, you can have a bit of fun playing Jackpot Darts.
